Mary Ann Houska, 77
Mary Ann Houska, 77, of Oacoma, died Wednesday, February 11, 2004, at Mid Dakota Medical Center, Chamberlain. Funeral services were Saturday, February 14, 2004 at St. James Catholic Church in Chamberlain. Burial was at St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery, Pukwana.
Mary was born on September 5, 1926 at Murdo, to Archie and Thelma (Palander) Byrd. She attended Murdo schools for 12 years and graduated from high school in 1944.
On September 3, 1954, she married Charles C. Houska of Murdo. She was employed by Texaco Company, Beckwith-Hardware, Harry K Chevrolet, the Adams Co. Record and other short-term jobs as she and her husband moved. They lived in Murdo, Marion, Presho, Chamberlain and Hettinger, ND. They retired to Oacoma in 1991.
She was a member of the Catholic Church, holding altar society offices in every town in which she lived.
She is survived by her husband, two sons: Steven and wife, Kathleen, Shepard, MT; and David and wife, Susan, Dell Rapids; two daughters, Susan Peterson, Tampa, FL; and Sally Madison and husband, Ron, Chamberlain; 15 grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Anker, Murdo; and a brother, Terry Byrd and wife Sue, Belle Fourche and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Larry and Harvey Byrd and an infant daughter, Derdre.
