[b]Locals honored as Hometown Heroes by Modern Woodman[/b]

Volunteer Laverne Olson, Presho, was recognized as a 'Hometown Hero' by local Modern Woodman of America camp members Sunday, October 3, 2004 at an afternoon ceremony held at the Oacoma Community Center, Oacoma, SD. In addition, Tim Long, Kennebec, was also recognized as a member of the National Guard 200th Engr.

[b]Lyman County Pheasants Forever Banquet planned[/b]

The local Pheasants Forever Chapter will hold their annual membership banquet and fund raiser Saturday, October 16 at the Kennebec Gym.

Members of the Lyman Band will cater the meal.

An original painting by South Dakota artist Mark Anderson will be auctioned. The subject of Anderson's painting will be the Brakke Dam area.

Tickets for the banquet are available now from Craig Reuman and other chapter members.

Weekly newspaper offers something for everyone

This week is National Newspaper Week. It also happens to be National Fire Prevention Week and National 4-H Week. All three may be equally important to the community and to those involved in the respective groups but without a community newspaper no one would be aware of the special week set aside to recognize the other two.

Kay Ambur returned Tuesday from a visit with her son Alan Rice and wife Peg at Goldsboro,North Carolina. She also made the acquaintance of her Great-Granddaughter Morgan Eve Schooley born August 2nd , daughter of Kim and John Schooley of Charlotte, North Carolina.
